About Course

You’ll understand how food intake and dietary requirements can be altered by illness and you’ll be able to translate nutritional science and information about food, into practical dietary advice. This advice can be aimed at the general public to promote health or in a clinical environment to treat a wide range of medical disorders.

Entry requirements

The entry requirement Nutrition and Dietetics  is four credit passes in relevant courses in SSCE/WASCE/ GCE “O” level at not more than two sittings.

These include:

  • Biology/Health science
  • One subject chosen from Chemistry, Food and Nutrition, Physics and Geography.
  • Two subject chosen from any of Economics, Account, Commerce, Agricultural Science and Social Science
  • Passes in English Language and Mathematics are compulsory

Career opportunities

  • Most graduates of Human Nutrition and Dietetics in Nigeria seek employment in the hospital. So they can specialize in areas such as;

    • Child nutrition;
    • Community health;
    • Internal medicine;
    • Sports nutrition;
    • Nutritional support (enteral and parental nutrition) and
    • Advanced patient care.

    While others move into;

    • Private practice;
    • Research;
    • Voluntary and non-governmental organization;
    • Nutrition counselling and
    • The food industry.
